First Trimester Tips: Most common questions and answers.
Hey Mom To Be,
Congratulations on your pregnancy!!! On my first trimester, I had so many questions about my pregnancy and I had to wait until my first office visit to get information from my doctor. That’s why I want to share a couple of tips that my awesome doctor shared with me.
Exercise during Pregnancy
Yes, you should exercise (unless your doctor told you not to). There are not specific recommendations on duration and heart rate, but general recommendations would be for aerobic exercise not to exceed 30-45 minutes and heart rate no greater than 140-150’s. DO NOT do horseback riding, skiing, scuba diving, motorboat or motorcycling.
Pregnancy Nutrition
Eat a balanced diet without cutting carbs or protein. Avoid: large fish (Tuna, Shark, Mackerel, Swordfish, etc), undercooked meats (raw sushi, oysters, rare/medium steak, etc), artificial sweeteners (Nutrasweet or Splenda), raw eggs (sometimes in salad dressings). Eliminate as much caffeine as possible (including coffee, tea, cokes, chocolate).
Hot tubs and Jacuzzi
It is ok to take a warm bath during pregnancy because it helps with aches and pains; however, high temperatures can be dangerous to your baby so please avoid.
Alcohol & Smoking
Avoid both of them during pregnant. I know it is very hard saying no to a glass of wine or a gin & tonic! Just remember it is just for a couple of months.
